Royal Canin was founded in 1967 by a French veterinary surgeon, Jean Cathary, and now employs over 4,500 people worldwide. It is part of Mars Inc.
Royal Canin is a long-term partner of EVECCS and also supports four other veterinary Societies and Colleges in Europe: EVCIM-CA (internal medicine), ESVD (dermatology), EVDS (dentistry) and ESVCN (comparative nutrition).
Royal Canin has recently developed the Recovery® diet; yet another sign of its clear commitment to the well-being of dogs and cats. Recovery® is now the n°1 in first-line diet designed to meet the requirements of convalescent dogs and cats.
It has an innovative formulation designed to cover the specific needs of animals in intensive care and during the recovery period: – High energy content, enriched with key nutrients for physiological recuperation, – Exclusive texture for easy tube-feeding, – Excellent palatability & perfect gastrointestinal tolerance.
Recovery® is available in cans and in trays.
Royal Canin diets are the fruit of research carried out by the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition, which has produced many patented innovations such as the “antioxidant cocktail” or the “skin barrier cocktail”, which are major worldwide breakthroughs.
Royal Canin has also developed many novel nutritional therapies, such as the use of hydrolysed protein (to control food allergies and inflammatory bowel disease). Royal Canin’s in-depth knowledge and understanding of RSS (relative super saturation) has enabled the development of diets that prevent both struvite and oxalate urinary stones in cats.
Royal Canin is committed to encouraging young vets to specialise in areas where nutrition can bring major benefits to dogs and cats.
Royal Canin offers free registrations to the annual EVECCS congress to 20 to 30 young veterinarians (under 35 years) with a quota of 3 people per country of origin.
During the congress, Royal Canin organises a dinner with these young vets and the members of the board to promote specialisation.
