Welcome to Gothenburg!

On behalf of the local organizing committee I wish you a warm welcome to Sweden and the 7th European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Congress.

From 29th May till 1st June 2008, hundreds of veterinarians and veterinary technicians will gather in Gothenburg, coming from all over Europe, to get together and enjoy education in the field of emergency and critical care.

The congress is conveniently organized with the congress centre, all hotels and social program venues at walking distance from each other. The congress is organized in cooperation with Blå Stjärnans Regional Small Animal Hospital and the theme this year will be “The trauma patient”. Lectures will be of a high practical and scientific level.

From left to right Elisabeth Ängeby (exhibition), Bert Jan Reezigt (president), Ellen Lundqvister (marketing), Maria Jäger (marketing), Heidi Young Nilsen (social program). They are all working at Blå Stjärnans Regional Small Animal Hospital. Andreas Lervik (wet labs), Oslo University is missing in the picture.

Gothenburg, a beautiful harbor town, is situated on the west coast of Sweden and in easy reach of with two international airports. Attendees will have the chance to meet emergency and critical care specialists from the USA, Europe and Scandinavia.

A precongress-day on the Thursday will cover a mix of practical emergency and critical care topics. On the Friday morning three wet labs will be organized training attendees vascular access, monitoring and ventilation, and the placement of tracheal stents. We believe strongly in the cooperation between the veterinarian and the veterinary technician and therefore the main program will have two parallel tracks for each of them.

Attendees get the chance to present their scientific work with oral abstracts or as a poster.

The social program with receptions and a galadinner will give us the chance to meet old friends and make new ones.

Join us for this exciting event and let´s together stimulate the development of veterinary emergency and critical care in Europe!

President of the local organizing committee
Member of the EVECCS general board

Words from the president

Welcome to the 7th European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care congress in the wonderful town of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Bert-Jan Reezigt and his organizing committee associated to Cristina Fraggio and the Education and Research committee, have arranged a fabulous and very diverse program. From basic to the cutting edge, lectures will attract all of you interested in emergency and critical care.

New for this year is a veterinary technician’s program and EVECCS has had the pleasure to invite Harold Davis, Veterinary Technician and Manager of the Emergency and Critical Care Service at UC Davis, USA.

I would like to thank all the sponsors for their support and for being part of our team in producing this symposium. Without the very generous support of our sponsors this meeting would not be possible. I would like to invite you all to become a member of EVECCS. Members will receive the Journal of Veterinary Emergency Medicine and Critical Care and enjoy many benefits. I sincerely hope to see you all in Gothenburg. I want to take the opportunity to thank Drs Bert Jan Reezigt and Cristina Fragio and their teams who have dedicated their time and efforts in organizing this congress.

Welcome to Gothenburg!
